Final Project Time

If you missed class today:
1. Everyone turned in the poster projects.
2. We began working on the final project. to learn more about this, go to the tab labeled 
"Project Update" and read. 
3. You will have to contact me in order to get your projects topic. 

If you were in class today:
Next class, bring your sketchbooks with all of your designs in pencil only.

In class next week: 
1. We will work on building the final project poster this will be a one day build because it is our last class. 
2. You will have from 9-2 and a critique from 2-3.

Homework & Poster Project Review


Here is your drawing project for the week, 
watch the video below and have fun. 


Next Saturday you will have the first hour of class to finalize your poster and then we will have a critique. Please review the information below, it tells you what to be ready for when we critique your work.

Poster Project Review
As part of the poster project you are being graded for both the content of the work and how you talk about the work, read the two handouts below and be able to identify both the elements of design and the principles of it in your work.

Poster content:
A. A common "Metaphor or Phrase" from the movement
B. The title of the movement 
C. The date it started
D. Colors unique to that movement
E. One key influential artist or designer,
name and or image
F. A paragraph of text. Minimum of 20 words and maximum of 50 words that describe the characteristics of the movement.

ALL CURRENT DVC STUDENTS ARE INVITED TO SUBMIT A PROPOSAL FOR A POSTER DESIGN
Up to $200 AWARD TO WINNING ENTRIES

DEADLINE: MAY 9, 2019

WINNING DESIGN WILL BE PRINTED IN COLOR COPIES, IN 12x18” (or larger)
AND DISTRIBUTED COLLEGE-WIDE. POSTERS WILL HAVE WIDE EXPOSURE ACROSS CAMPUS


THEME AND FOCUS OF DESIGN:
VISUAL AND/OR TEXT REPRESENTATION OF THE DVC STUDENT DEMANDS IN RESPONSE TO RECENT ACTS OF RACISM AGAINST DVC STUDENTS AND PROGRAMS

DVC STUDENT DEMANDS:
• Mandatory anti-racist training and workshops for faculty and staff
• More transparency: (Announcements in classes, Quicker dissemination of information, Full disclosure of the incident, Follow-up on investigations)
• More resources and safe spaces for students of color 
• Complete and robust ethnic studies department 
• More faculty and staff of color 
• More support for faculty and staff of color

ENTRY SUBMISSION:
DIGITAL ENTRIES: SUBMIT PDF FILE, NATIVE FILE, AND WORD DOC TO FOLDER FILE “DVC STUDENT DEMANDS POSTER DESIGN COMPETITION” IN A303
HARDCOPY ENTRIES: SUBMIT ARTWORK, AND TYPED STATEMENT TO A-401 ART OFFICE DIRECTLY TO AN INSTRUCTOR IN OFFICE

SUBMISSIONS MUST INCLUDE DIGITAL OR HARDCOPY IMAGE OF DESIGN, PLUS STATEMENT INCLUDING NAME, CONTACT, NAME OF A CURRENT DVC INSTRUCTOR, AND SHORT EXPLANATION OF IDEA/INSPIRATION FOR YOUR DESIGN.

WINNERS WILL NEED TO SIGN CONSENT TO ALLOW DVC TO PRINT AND DISTRIBUTE POSTERS CAMPUS WIDE, AND FOR DIGITAL DISTRIBUTION
